Guardians - Tales of resistance

Two Wixárika shamans visit indigenous communities from Latin America that struggle to preserve their traditions and territories.

Juan José “Katira” and his sons Enrique and Clemente Ramírez, spiritual leaders of the Wixárika (Huichol) people of Mexico and protagonists of the award-winning documentary Huicholes: The Last Peyote Guardians (2014), delve into the lives of ancestral Latin American indigenous communities that, like them, fight to protect their territory and identity against the challenges posed by development, thus sharing a global and urgent message of care for life on the planet.

The series opens a window onto the experiences and knowledge of spiritual and political leaders of millenary peoples, who share a different way of understanding and living in nature and in the spiritual world: their ancestral consciousness.

In contrast of many series we offer an intimate portrait of the problems faced by communities who keep alive the millennial knowledge of a continent, which continue to resist the constant threat to their territories, the sustenance of their identity and daily life, and the balance of the regional ecosystem.
